Jonathan Fowler

Jonathan Fowler is the UN Regional Communications Officer for Europe and Central Asia. Prior to this, he worked as a communications advisor for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ team in New York. He has served in similar roles in other parts of the UN family, in Geneva: Chief of the Strategic Communications Office at the World Meteorological Organization; Chief of Communications, Information and Outreach at the UN Conference on Trade and Development; and Public Information Officer at the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. Before joining the United Nations in 2014, Jonathan spent nearly 15 years as a journalist with the global newswires Agence France-Presse and The Associated Press, in a range of reporting and editorial roles. Earlier in this career, Jonathan worked in the British and Polish academic sectors, lecturing and researching in history and political science, before moving into the international communications and outreach section of the University of Warwick. Jonathan is scheduled to leave Istanbul early in 2023 to take up a new role with the UN Department of Global Communications in New York.
